Colton, San Bernardino County
Colton was founded in 1875 by the Southern Pacific and named for David Colton, a company officer. In 1883 a rival railroad forced its tracks across the Southern Pacific line here after a tense standoff, creating Colton Crossing, long one of the busiest rail junctions in the country. A flyover completed in 2013 finally lifted one line over the other.
